MR BRUCE IN AMERICA

o> ARRANGEMENTS MODIFIED VESSEL ARRIVES LATE NEW YORK. Dec. 16. (Received Dec. 16, at 6.30 p.m.) _Mr Stanley Bruce arrived, but since the Queen Mary was almost 12 hours late, the arrangements for meeting him had to be modified. Mr Bruce will remain in New York until late on Saturday owing to the loss of a day here, but he expects to leave Washington on December 23, according to schedule. In an interview with the Australian Associated Press Mr stressed that he had no mission to initiate trade agreement discussions, inform the United States Government with regard to British policy, make important addresses in America, make any specific investigations, or otherwise carry out any official mission. " Naturally I will listen to everything I can hear about the agreement situation and about the American attitude to European affairs, or anything else that is possibly of interest to -Australia, and when I report to my Government 1 will indicate what I learn. Perhaps it will be possible later to estimate for the Australian public what the American viewpoint is with regard to this or that international question. Maybe I shall know better after what my visit to Washington brings up."
