FIRE CHIEF'S DEATH
FALL FROM A LAUNCH TRAGEDY AT SUVA SUVA, Dec. 16. Mr George Bright, aged 35, superintendent jot the Suva Fire Brigade, and formerly of Auckland, fell from a launch in the Rewa River on Wednesday and disappeared. The body was recovered this morning. An Auckland Association message states that the first news of the drowning of Mr George Bright, superintendent of the Suva Fire Brigade, was received in a cable from the Suva Fire Board to the Auckland fire station, where his brother (Mr Eric Bright) is employed. His mother (Mrs H. Bright) resides at Sandringham, Auckland. George Bright was born in Sydney, but lived most of his life in Auckland. He joined the Central Fire Station staff at the age of 21, and remained until he became deputy superintendent at Suva 12 years ago. He received high praise for his work in the disastrous fire in the copra store of Morris Hedstrom, Ltd., in March, 1937, when his right arm was severely burnt.
