Cricket In the Maniototo Cricket Competition, easy wins were scored by Patearoa and Oturehua in their respective matches on Saturday, while the other game, Ranfurly v. Waipiata, resulted in a win for the latter by eight runs. The best scorer of the day was James Blakely, who secured a total of 89 for Patearoa. Several bowlers finished the day with exceptionally good averages. Waipiata (114) defeated Ranfurly (106). For Waipiata, the top scorers were, Murray 20, Pollock 28, Gibson 21 not out, and Mathias 12. In the bowling, the best averages were obtained by Pollock five for 54. F. Mathias one for 12. and Murray three for 17. For Ranfuriy, three of the younger players compiled the most of the runs—J. Kearney 29. J. Mulholland 19. C. Forrester 27 and A. Murray 16, while the wickets were taken by J. Kearney three for 29, Homer three for 18, Hanrahan, Lynch, Mulholland and Murray one wicket each. Oturehua (98) defeated Becks (34). For Oturehua. the double-figure scorers were W. Becker, 18, McSkimming 17, Armstrong 11 and Harrex 10. In the bowling, McSkimming took three for 10, Scoberg three for 11, and W. Becker three for 11. The top scorer for Becks was Clouston (12), and the successful bowlers were Kane, with two for 25; and Mee four for 28. Patearoa (268) defeated Cambrian (31). For Patearoa James Blakely 89. John Blakely 51, R. Carr 50 not our, H. Blakely 25, Greer 21 and McAtamney 14. scored the majority of the runs and good bowling averages were secured by McAtamney with three for five, Carr three for six, John Blakely two for six, and Pearce one for two. Walker has returned from Palmerston North. Miss D. King, of Oamaru. spent a few days in Lawrence with her parents, Mr and Mrs A. L. King. Mr and Mrs J. Russell are spending a holiday in Alexandra. Mrs D. Stewart is paying a short visit to Timaru. The Rev. F. W. Winton is at present in Dunedin for the Presbyterian General Assembly. Mr W. T. Thompson, of Benvarden, has returned from a visit to Dunedin. Mr W. J. Thomson, of the local Post Office staff, has returned from his annual leave. Mr J. Christie and his son are at present at Clydevale. Mrs Winmill was a visitor to Dunedin last week. Miss S. A. Donohue is on holiday in the North Island. Mr J. Archer, Main Highways’ Board traffic inspector, has been transferred to this district, and will take up residence in Lawrence. Miss E. Hart, of Wetherstones, is at present at Queenstown. Mrs C. J. Morris is a visitor to Christchurch for Show Week. Mr E. J. Murphy, station master, has resumed duties after his annual leave. Mr A. M. Thomson, of Dunedin, has been appointed manager and editor of the Tuapeka' Times Newspaper Company, Ltd.

Cricket A cricket match between Lawrence and Miller’s Flat played at Simpson Park on Saturday resulted in a draw. Batting first. Lawrence made 124 (R, Cotton 62, Cavanagh 22, E. Donohue 19). Miller’s Flat renlied with 86 for four wickets (C. Pellas 31, J. Walker 33 not out). Bowling for Miller’s Flat, J. Walker took 6 wickets for 26 runs, E. Gilligan 2 for 42, C. Pellas 1 for 19. and L. Graham 1 for 30, while for Lawrence J. Stuart took 2 for 21. Fire Brigade The following will represent the Lawrence Fire Brigade" in 'the Watts Cup competition to be held at Tapanui:—E.
