VOTING AT ELECTION
NEARLY 93 PER CENT. OF TOTAL ROLL THE HIGHEST RECORDED (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 3. Preliminary calculations, which are subject to meticulous checking before confirmation, show the percentage of votes cast at the general election to the total effective roll to be 92.85, a record figure. The total roll was 995,199: the number of valid votes cast was 917,689; and informal votes numbered 6,396. so that non-voters total 71,115. The previous highest percentage was 90.92 in 1925, when compulsory ragistration was introduced. In 1935 the percentage was 90.75. In New South Wales, where comoulsory registration and compulsory voting obtain, the percentage is higher than in New Zealand, and that of last March was 95.78.
