BASEBALL IN DUNEDIN
FORMATION OF CLUBS A meeting of all those interested in the promotion of the sport of baseball in Dunedin was held last night, there being an encouraging attendance, including several women. The meeting took the form of a discussion concerning the possibility of forming several clubs _in the district, and also the question of grounds. Mr C. J. L. White was in the chair, and he mentioned that the exhibition game which had been arranged for last Saturday had. unfortunately, been interfered with by the rain. The spectators who had already seen the game played had been most enthusiastic, and it would be a good idea to arrange an exhibition match between teams selected from the best players in the city. There were already three teams in Dunedin—Railway, Hillside and Dunedin —and several others in the process of formation. The League in Dunedin was to be on the same lines as the Wellington Association and was to be affiliated with the New Zealand Association. It was decided that should any member of the Management Committee be unable to attend a meeting of the committee, that member should have the right to send in his place a deputy approved by the other committee members.
It was decided that Mondays and Wednesdays should be the official oractice nights, practice to be held at the Oval from 5.15 p.m. onwards. It was pointed out that there would be nothing to prevent members from holding practices on the Oval any evening.
The meeting concluded with an informal discussion of the future policy of the league, and the possibilities of the game in Dunedin. The following sub-committee was constituted to organise and form clubs in the district —Messrs D. Beecher, J. Dyamond, R. Fulcher and Miss P. Chandler.
