A FATAL FIRE

OUTBREAK AT BLUFF TWO SHOPS DESTROYED A FIREMAN ELECTROCUTED (Per United Press Association) INVERCARGILL, Oct. 25. A serious fire broke out at an early hour this morning at Bluff, when two shops, occupied by T. Cahill (fish and confectionery) and Mrs Robey (greengrocery) were destroyed completely, while Young's Building, in which are situated the Single Profit Grocery Stores and Miss McDonald's ladies' outfitting shop, was severely damaged and the stocks ruined.

A strong nor'-west wind was blowing, and fanned the flames, and the brigade had a difficult task to confine the outbreak to the premises affected. The Golden Age Hotel was saved from damage. During the efforts to prevent the fire spreading William Molloy, a member of the brigade, a married man and a prominent resident, came in contact with an electric wire and was electrocuted. Artificial respiration by a doctor and'helpers proved unavailing. The insurances are not yet known.
