CLEAR ISSUE BEFORE PEOPLE

POSSIBILITY OF CLOSE STRUGGLE LABOUR WINS THREE MAORI SEATS To-day the electors of New Zealand will be called upon to decide, at the conclusion of the first term of Labour rule in the history of the Dominion, whether they desire that Government to remain in power or whether they are in favour of a change. The decision, except in a few electorates, is a straightout one between Labour and Conservative candidates, and as there has probably never been such a concentrated barrage of propaganda issued by both sides at any previous election, the electors should by now have firmly made up their minds. The issues have been clearly stated, and as,the difference ' between them is a definite one, there should be no excuse for last-minute indecision. The liquor poll will be conducted conjointly with the general lection. The hours of polling are from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The keen interest in the election is reflected by the heavy polling which was recorded in the Maori electorates yesterday. The result showed a gain of one to Labour, Mr Tau Henare, the sitting Nationalist member, losing his seat to his Labour opponent, Mr P. H. Paikea.
