RECENT AUSTRALIAN TOUR HIGH STANDARD OF WOMEN’S PLAY (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sept. 7. The opinion-that the standard of women’s golf in. Australia at present is very high, and that there are in the Commonwealth a number of most promising young players, was expressed by Mrs Guy Williams, captain-manager of the New Zealand women’s team which was Recently over there. Mrs Williajus returned to-day by the Maunganui, accompanied by- Misses Hbrnabrook, Buchanan, and Collins,; having remained behind in Sydney after the playing members of the team had returned to New Zealand. “ While gratified at the New Zealand team having retained the Tasman Cup. it was disappointing,” said Mrs Williams, " that they did not do better in the open championships.” It was rather difficult to became accustomed to the different light on Australian courses, and it appeared that New Zealand teams required a little longer than a week to accustom themselves to the new conditions and recover from the sea crossing before commencing competition play.. She felt that the experience gained by the members ,of the New Zealand team and the ; players who accompanied it had been 'most valuable, and would ,be reflected in theirplay. The trip Had been most successful in every way, Mrs Williams said, and she could not speak too highly of the splendid hospitality extended by their Australian hosts. In this respect they owed a particular debt of gratitude to Miss U. Clift, president of the New South Wales Ladies’ Golf, Union, and of the Australian Ladies’ Golf Union.
