“Sickness and health are trifling things except in so far as they are occasions for that which can be wrought through them,” said Professor L. W. Grensted, of Oriel College, Oxford, speaking at the summer conference of the Guild of Health. “It is not to health we are looking; It is to wholeness, which is a much bigger thing. If we are to deal with the problems of sickness and health in a sane and ordinary way we must take the plain scientific facts. It is foolishness to go off into some realm of dreaming which divorces itself from reality. It is in our bodies, in our circumstances, and in this world of tragic confusions that God’s fundamental purpose is to be worked out. The work the doctors are doing, the work the scientists are doing and the work the clergy are doing is all part of one thing. Many doctors separate their work off, and many clergy separate theirs and give it wings, but those who are witnesses with us of the Cross of Christ and His resurrection are facing something which has its foot in both worlds. It is for the working towards that that this guild stands.”
