AN ATTRACTIVE DISPLAY
Outstanding among the attractions of the exhibition and fair held to augment funds for the construction of a new home science hostel were the presentation of a series of educational films and a mannequin parade. The films, which were “talkies,” aroused considerable interest and dealt entertainingly with their various subjects —the correct arrangement of the four units of the modern kitchen (stove, sink, work bench and store cupboard) in order to reduce effort to a minimum; a famous chef at work (preparing a party dish).; nursery schools in England (stressing the necessity for correct training in infancy); how to cook systematically (“clean up as you go along”); and an instructive film dealing with nutritive values. The mannequin parade revealed some particularly fine craftsmanship on the part of the home science students. The frocks, while laying no great emphasis on prevailing modes, were beautifully tailored and were a creditable demonstration of the art of designing for the individual figure.
