OUTRAM TOWN BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Outram Town Board was held on Monday last and was attended by the chairman (Commissioner John Doherty) and Commissioners Hughes, Adams, Ashley, and Graham. A letter was received from the certifying officer. Employment Bureau, Mosgiel, stating that the application for six men under scheme 13 for general improvements to the West Taieri Cemetery had been granted. An extension of time was granted for the kerbing and channelling work, the extension to cover the employment of four men. It was decided that the ranger, be authorised to take legal action against the owners of wandering stock. It was reported that good work was being done on the scenic walk along the Taieri River to Lee Stream, explosives now being necessary in order to remove some rocky faces. It was decided that the picture proprietor be given permission to darken the skylight in the Town Hall. FORESTERS At the meeting of Court St. Andrews, held on August 22, C.R. Bro. G. McKay presided over a good attendance ot officers and members. The court was opened in mourning in respect to the late Bro. John Ogg, one of the oldest members, and the members honoured his memory by standing in silence. Two members were initiated into the Order, one on behalf of Court Enterprise. The second round of the 500 competition was played off, and the following courts now qualify. for the third round:—Pride of Dunedin, King Edward’s Pride, and Littlejohn. At the meeting on September 5 it was decided to write to the secretary of Court Pride of Dunedin, conveying regret at the passing of the late secretary, P.C.R. Bro. A. D. Miller, members standing in respect, to his memory. P.C.R/s Bros. Wilson and Wood were welcomed to the meeting and judged the court for the ritual competition. The nomination of officers and delegates took place, and the election and installation will take place next court night. After the court was closed members played badminton. and after an enjoyabH evening’s sport the winners of the Doubles were Bros. M. Swann and H. Baines.
