FIFTIETH ANNIVERSARY PART PLAYED IN PIONEERING iPek United Press Association) AUCKLAND, Aug. 30. Remarking that with the march of progress people were apt to forget the monumental part played in the development of New Zealand by ■ thcoioneers, prominent among whom were the surveyors facing danger, difficulty hardship and privation, the Mayor (Sir Ernest Davis) extended an official welcome to the 73 delegates from all parts of the Dominion who attended the fiftieth annual meeting, and also the fiftieth anniversary of the foundation of the New Zealand Institute of Surveyors. Mr G. K. Grierson (president), who was in the chair, returned thanks for the welcome to Auckland. A feature of the conference was the presentation to Mr E. V. Blake (Auckland) of the Fulton bequest medallion for the best technical subject dealt with during the year by a member of the institute. This is the first award of the medallion. The paper submitted by Mr Blake was entitled "Surveying —A Major Factor in Town Planning."
