SWAM THE CHANNEL
AN ENGLISH GARDENER LESS THAN FOURTEEN HOURS LONDON, Aug. 29. (Received Aug. 29, at 10 p.m.) A Battersea Park gardener, Fer nely Wheatcroft, aged 42, swam the Channel from Gris Nez. He reached the coast between Dover and Folkestone, his time being 13 hours 37 minutes. Wheatcroft learned to swim in 1934. He abandoned an attempt last July.
