THE 4ZB JOKE CONTEST
TO THE EDITOR
Sir,—At the commencement of the above competition it was announced over the air that nothing of a questionable nature would be included in the jokes. Can the sponsor really say they have kept to this? The first prize winners for two weeks have been jokes which could not be repeated In anyone’s home without question. If the sponsors wish to keep to their word, surely there are hundreds of decent jokes' to choose from without stooping to suggestive ones, which fail to amuse decent thinking folk. If the announcers and the judges are pleased, where is their taste? And where their sense of humour? Some of the jokes given a lower place in the competition were worth repeating, but the two firsts mentioned were certainly not, and one wonders at the sponsor giving them over the air.—l am, etc., Not a Prude. TO THE EDITOR Sir, —Our local advertising station has instituted a joke competition. Some of the humour coming over the radio is amusing and clever, but the jokes which evidently make most appeal to the judges are of a broad or vulgar type. I would suggest that a change be made to men who can appreciate jokes of a more clever and subtle type. If not, there will be many more like my wife, who. much to the disappointment of the young members of my family, turned off the radio on Saturday, saying, “That is the last time we will listen to that session. I feel impelled to enter this public protest. Otherwise, from the prize decisions already given, those entering will feel that vulgar jokes are most appreciated, and where shall we end? —I am, etc.. Father of a Family.
