NEW VESSEL FOR THE INTERCOLONIAL TRADE The Union Steam Ship Company’s new vessel Waipori, which was launched on July 28 at the yards of Messrs R. and W. Hawthorn, Leslie and Co., Ltd., Newcastle-on-Tyne, by Mrs F. B. O’Meara, the wife of a member of the Union Company’s board of directors in London. The Waipori is a single-screw oil-burning steamer, and is intended to be used in the intercolonial cargo trade. The vessel’s hull incorporates the arc-form design and her principal dimensions are: Length, b.p. 348 ft; breadth, 55ft; moulded depth, 28ft Gin; gross tonnage, 4400; speed, 13 knots. She is expected to leave the United Kingdom about the middle of October, but the route of her outward voyage has not yet been decided. The Waipori’s port of registry will be Dunedin.
