MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE The weekly meeting of the committee of the Otago Rugby Union was held last night. The president (Mr A. C. Haynes) occupied the chair. Teams Default The Taieri Club wrote stating that its Fifth Grade team had been unable to take the field on August 20 against Pirates, owing to a number of the players suffering from measles.—The match was awarded to Pirates. Mr J. J. Morice, referee for the Fifth Grade match between the Taieri and Alhambra teams, to have been played last Saturday, wrote stating that the Alhambra team had to put in an appearance. —It was decided to award the match to Taieri. West Taieri v. Waitahuna Permission was granted the West Taieri Club to play a match against Waitahuna at Outran) on Saturday, September 3. Match With Taranaki The question of appointing a referee for the Ranfurly Shield match with Taranaki was referred to the local Referees’ Appointment Board. Mr Douglas Spedding said that he understood that the Taranaki team did not intend to ask for an outside referee. Shield Challenges A letter was received from the secretary of the Ashburton Union, stating that if Otago was not able to play a shield match with its representatives on September 24, a mid-week match might be arranged. It was pointed out that September 24 had been offered to Manawatu, but that no reply had yet been received from that union. If Manawatu accepted the date, it would be a special challenge match.—lt was decided to hold over the matter till next meeting, a member remarking that apparently Manawatu was waiting to see how Otago fared to-morrow. Club’s Diamond Jubilee It was decided to grant the use of the social hall of the Henry Rose Pavilion to the Zingari-Richmond Club for the purpose of holding a dinner on Saturday evening, September 24, in connection with the diamond jubilee celebrations of the club. Association Congratulated It was decided to send a letter of congratulation to the Otago Football Association on the Otago team winning the E.F.A. Trophy match against Canterbury on Saturday. Junior Competition Mr S. G. Styche, reporting on behalf of the Flag Committee, stated that finality was being reached in tne Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Grade competitions. The four leading teams in each of the three grades were to meet, as the play of the other teams in the respective competitions could not affect the results. There were three Saturdays yet available. The report was approved. Otago B v. Eastern Southland Mr A. Fleury reported on the visit of the Otago B team to Gore on Saturday to play Eastern Southland. He said that there had been some casualties, Reid having had his collarbone broken and Mehalski and Tyne also being injured. The game had been a fast, open one, and would no doubt help football in the district. The gate receipts had amounted to about kzu. It was decided to thank Mr Fleury for his report. Gate Receipts It was reported that the gate receipts for the Otago-North Otago match on Saturday amounted to £328. FIXTURES FOR SATURDAY The following is the draw for Saturday (all the matches will be commenced at 1.30 p.m.):— Third Grade.—Pirates A v. Zingarl A, Carisbrook (Mr.G. Lewis); Ravensbourne v. Southern, Caledonian (Mr E. Heather). Fourth Grade. —Dunedin v. Union, Bathgate Park No. 1 (Mr S. Gibson); Pirates A v. Kaikorai, Oval No. 1 (Mr S. Butler). , . , . Fifth Grade.— Dunedin v. Pirates A. Bathgate Park No. 2 (Mr D. Kilgour); Technical v. Union, Oval No. 2 (Mr t. Henderson). , , , . If Carisbrook is not fit for play for the curtain-raiser, it will be played at Tahuna No. 1 at 1.30 p.m Line Umpires for Wednesday.— Messrs J. D. Fletcher 3nd J. _Briggs.
