PRACTICAL PSYCHOLOGY CLUB

SUMMARY OF YEAR’S WORK Last Thursday evening, at the Dunedin Practical Psychology Club, the year’s subjects were revised by Mr McFarlane. Beginning with the subject “Analysing Our Reactions.” he pointed out that according to the way in which one reacted to life so was one made or marred mentally and physically. “ The Conquest of Self ” was next dealt with, Mr McFarlane stating that self-control was possible only through thought control. To overcome, one had to create a state of conscious harmony. , „ .. „ Regarding the subject, “ Getting Free from Undesirable Conditions,” Mr McFarlane said that man could be the master instead of the slave of circumstances, by developing his latent powers. “Conquering Moods of Depression was not an easy task, he said, but it was possible by unearthing and getting rid of the root cause, which was fear. A melancholy mind encouraged disease, but a creative and harmonious life was the reward of tuning into the right thought currents. “ The Law of Supply ” was a natural law when one had faith in the vital powers of the Universe. By living in the consciousness of Infinite supply at all times, man became a magnet to draw to himself all good. The “Way to Peace and Harmony” was achieved by right thinking. To view life from the universal standpoint cleansed the mind from self-seeking, the cause of most complexes. The subject “Acquiring Mental Poise ” was summed up in the words, “ Inner conflict robs one of emotional poise.” By acting and living in the light of the Eternal and keeping _ in rhythm with life one acquired poise. Describing “ The Making and Breaking of Habits,” Mr McFarlane stated that when a person realised that his aura was the greatest power in the Universe, and that according to his habits would that aura be radiated, it behoved him to be careful of the thoughts expressed or held. ■

In conclusion, Mr McFarlane dealt with the subject “ What Does Life Mean to You? ” Life, he said, was a chance to take God at His word and to create in oneself a unique -personality by being true to oneself and living up to the highest ideals.
