MASSED START RACE The Dunedin Amateur Cycling Club held its first massed start race of the season on Saturday afternoon, when a 245-mile race was held over a course around the Taieri. From the start the field was split up. and coming home Smart left Annand, Shepherd and Denton, to gain an easy victory. Results: D. Smart (Ihr lOmin 30sec) 1, A. Annand (Ihr lOmin 42sec) 2, R. Shepherd (Ihr llmin ssec) 3, K. Denton (Ihr 12min 50sec) 4, A. Umbers (Ihr 13min 25sec) 5. Sealed handicap: R. Shepherd (4min) 1, A. Annand (3min) 2, K. Denton (3smin) 3. GREEN ISLAND CLUB The Green Island Club (professional) held a race from Green Island to Henley and back on Saturday. A field of 17 riders faced the starter (Mr R. H. Gorden). The first to go were A. Watt and C. Hughes, the next (three minutes later) being E, Brown, C. Ralston, M. Williamson and O. Gardiner, followed by D. Ralston, S. McCartney, I. Woodford, R. Wilson Pyne, J. E. McCartney and A. Shand., The rest of the riders went off at half-minute intervals. The placings were: O. Gardiner 1, C. Ralston 2. C. Hughes 3. Fastest times: A. Woodford, Ihr 24min 24sec: L. Bell. Ihr 24min 51sec.
