MAGISTRATE’S COURT At a short sitting of the Magistrate’s Court at Port Chalmers yesterday, before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M., three persons were convicted of traffic offences. Frederick John Charles Halely pleaded guilty to negligently driving a motor cycle, failing to report an accident to the police, and driving a motor cycle which was not equipped with a warrant of fitness.—Sergeant Irwin said the defendant knocked down a pedestrian on a marked crossing at the corner of King Edward square and Grey street, and failed to report the accident. —The magistrate who remarke' that the pedestrian crossings were marked so that people on foot could cross in safety imposed a fine of 20s. with costs (10s), on each of the first two charges, and on the third charge the defendant was fined 10s, with costs (10s). Walter Henry Smith, who sold i motor cycle to the previous defendant without notifying the deputy registrar within seven days of the change of ownership, was fined 5s with costs (10s).

For driving a truck which was not equipped with an efficient windscreen wiper, William Lindsay Madigan was fined 10s, with costs (10s), and was fined a similar amount for parking his vehicle on an angle to the kerbing.
