EMPIRE AIR MAIL

POSITION OF NEW ZEALAND FURTHER INFORMATION AWAITED (Per United Press Association) GREYMOUTH, June 17. The Postmaster-general (Mr F. Jones) arrived here by plane this morning from Wellington on departmental business. In an interview regarding the Sydney cablegram with reference to the Empire air mail service Mr Jones said he did not know whether the statement that the New Zealand Government must make its own agreement with the Quantas company for the carriage of mails was correct. The statement did not seem to square with the Government’s expectations and he doubted its correctness. The Government had been awaiting a reply from Australia, but so far as he knew no reply had been received up to yesterday afternoon. Meanwhile, he withheld further comment.
