WINTER ILLNESSES
COMMON IN AUCKLAND AREA INCIDENCE NOT UNUSUAL . ( Special to Daily Times) AUCKLAND, June 17. Evidence that the onset of winter has been accompanied by widespread sickness not only among children-, but also among adults, 1« furnished by the depletion of school attendances and by the number of employees of city firms who are on sick leave. Influenza, heavy colds, measles, and even chicken-pox have been taking their toll among adult! and have also affected large numbers of children. ,v, V - Scarlet fever, has caused the closing for a week of one class at a city school, and the usual seasonal number of diphtheria, chses have been reported. A watch-is being kept fpr typhoid, fever at ; a large institution. The incidence of the usual winter illnesses, however, is not considered unusually heavy, and the Health Department in Auckland regards the general health of the public as being quite good. It, is thought that in the Auckland health district the outbreak of measles, which has been to evidence for several months, is nowsubsiding. Cases are still occurring- ■. ■■
