THE ALL BLACKS

SYDNEY PRESS COMMENT A POWERFUL COMBINATION EQUAL TO PREVIOUS TEAMS (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) SYDNEY, June 17. The Sydney Morning Herald, commenting on the selection of the All Blacks, says: The team should be equal, if not superior, to many of the great New Zealand teams of the past. Brilliant backs and strong, rugged forwards, aided by an admirable blending of youth and experience, suggest that the All Blacks will be a powerful combination. This is the opinion of Australian international players who have played against the selected players both in Australia and New Zealand, BLEDISLOE CUP AT STAKE RECORD OF ALL BLACKS Twenty-five matches have been played between Australia and the All Blacks. The latter have won 16, Australia seven, and two have been drawn. The All Blacks have scored 391 points and had 226 registered against them. Lord Bledisloe, who was the Governor-General of the Dominion, presented a cup for competition between the two countries in 1931. There was only one test played in that season. New Zealand winning at Eden Park by 20 points to 13. The All Blacks retained the trophy in Australia in 1932 by winning two of the three tests, but lost it on tour in 1934, when they were defeated in the two tests played. The All Blacks again won the cup from the Australian touring team in 1936. They were successful in the two tests played in Wellington and Dunedin that season.
