FINGLETON AND BADCOCK AUSTRALIAN CRICKETERS MATCH AGAINST GENTLEMEN (United Press AssoclaUon) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) LONDON, June 16. In the match, Australia v. Gentlemen, splendid batting by Brown saved the follow-on for Gentlemen. Brown hit with enormous power, added 33 in 10 minutes, and reached 88 in an hour. Going for another big hit with the last man in he was caught in the covers. His score included 15 boundaries. The Gentlemen’s innings lasted 245 minutes.
Australia reopened at 4.5. Fingleton, who was unusually bright, and Brown raised 50 in 40 minutes of which Fingleton contributed 37. He continued to score twice as fast as Brown, who appeared to be under the impression that he was still saving the test match. The partnership was worth 112 when Brown was caught at first slip. Eleven thousand spectators saw Badcock pull and drive ferociously, and Fingleton reached an exceptionally fast 100 in 125 minutes after remaining for 10 mHnutes on 99. Fingleton was caught in the slips just before stumps were drawn. He batted 140 minutes and hit 10 4’s in a chanceless, enterprising display. FOUR WICKETS FOR 335 BADCOCK IN BRILLIANT FORM LONDON, June 17. (Received June 18, at 1.35 a.m.) The weather was sultry, and there was only a handful of people present when play was resumed in the cricket match. . Waite and Badcock raised 200 in two hours and three-quarters. Waite was run out after batting soundly for 85 minutes. McCabe was soon aggressive, but cut a leg-break hard to Meyer, who took a splendid catch at second slip. Severely punishing' Brown, Badcock was excellent, reaching 100, in 155 minutes. Flashing on-drives and fierce hooks left the fieldsmen standing. Bradman does not intend to bat again in this match.
