TROTTING NOTES

By Sentinel

Methven Trotting Club At the twelfth annual meeting of the Methven Trotting Club the balance sheet showed a very pleasing state of affairs by a balance of assets over liabilities of £4470 17s 2d,

Ample Onportunity

Regret has been expressed that Wrack and Travis Axworthy have been sold to Australian owners. Both horses, however, had a good stay in New Zealand. Travis Axworthy was imported in 1924, and Wrack in the same year, so that both horses had plenty of time to enrich the Trotting Stud Book The Barton Team

A Christchurch report states that several members of J Fraser’s team are being treated to short spells at the moment, but Indianapolis. Golden Eagle, Bittersweet, Rongomai Grand Mogul and Great Admiral are all being kept in trim by a course of road work, seldom being on the tracks With the exception of Rorjgomai who has returned to work after a spell, the others have all engaged in recent racing and are in good order However. with August racing in sight, it was not considered wise to let them lose their present condition, and they will be ready to do useful tasks again when the tracks are better suited to fast work.

Sister to Greyhound Mr W. Judy, owner of the Arrowpoint Stud Farm, U.S.A., is elated over the foaling of a full-sister to the celebrated Greyhound She is a black by Guy, Abbey from Elizabeth, and. although tinged with grey, it is expected that she will lose these spots when she matures. It may be interesting to note that Elizabeth’s gets have been of various colours. Her first production was a bay Greyhound is grey, and the last a black. The mare claims greatness not only through the deeds of Greyhound, bu' also by reason of the fact that she is a full-sister to Peter the Brewer one of the leading sires in America. A Loss to New Zealand Two of the best-known stallions in New Zealand. Wrack and Travis Axworthy have been sent to Australia, and in their departure New Zealand breeders are deprived of a wealth of Peter the Great blood which has played a big part in New Zealand trotting. Wrack is a son of Peter the Great, and Travis Axworthy’s dam. Lady Peter, is also by that sire. Peter the Great is noted as a sire of trotters, and the breed is invaluable It now seems (says an exchange) that the pacing breed will dominate the industry, and Canterbury, in this respect, is not so badly off. Grattan Loyal and Jack Potts look like being the sires most in demand, and the progeny of both have proved good, genuine pacers. Breeders will also consider the claims of Nelson Derby, whose latest winner is Bed Rock, winner of the Sapling Stakes. At Roydon Lodge are three stallions in U. Scott. Gallant Knight and Great Bingen all pacers, but bred on trotting lines. Whether the firstnamed will be available to breeders or not is not generally known, but Great Bingen, as a sire, has not received the patronage that one of his type deserves
