GENERAL ELECTION
SOUTHERN MAORI ELECTORATE Captain J. C. Tikao, who is organising on behalf of the National Party in the Southern Maori electorate, arrived from Invercargill last night. He staled that many of the Maori electors in this electorate are on the pakeha roll and advises them to have their names removed and thus enable them to register thenvotes for the Maori member, in order to enjoy any benefits derived from the Maori status. All that wiL be required is to notify the registrar of electors in their various districts that they want their names removed. It is the intention of the Government to compile a Maori roll, and the coming election will act as a guide towards that issue. Captain Tikao is organising on behalf of Mr Tom Bragg, of Stewart Island, who has agreed to contest the Southern Maori seat as an Inde-pendent-National.
