CHOSEN BY DUCHESS

GARMENTS AT GLASGOW WOOL SECRETARIAT AIDED (From Our Own Correspondent) (By Air Mail) LONDON, May 14. One of the attractive exhibits in the International Wool Secretariat’s pavilion at the Empire Exhibition is a selection of babies’ and children s garments. They were chosen by the Duchess of Kent. In reply to the Secretariat’s invitation to manufacturers, asking them to contribute garments for display, there was such an overwhelming response that it was found impossible to show all that were sent. In its perplexity, net wishing to offend contributors, the Secretariat sought the aid of the Duchess. Would her Royal Highness be good enough to make a selection? the somewhat worried members inquired. The Royal Mother replied that she would be delighted. Relieved, the Secretariat sent the imposing array round to Belgrave Square, where the Duchess made a thoughtful selection, now on exhibition at Glasgow. An attractive booklet has been produced by the Secretariat to mark the exhibition. It is called “ Wonders ot Wool.’’ In addition to describing and acting as a guide book for the wool pavilion, it emphasises the general utility of wool for wear on every conceivable occasion by a series of excellent photographs. Wool for furnishing is also advocated. Finally, the sheep themselves’ have a word to say to their public. The interest of the children is stimulated by colouring and slogan competitions, not to mention the adventures of “ Lenny Lamb, who overcomes the threat of death and mint sauce to retire to grow wool for the rest of his days!
