NEW MUSICAL COMEDY
JACK BENNY STARRED Headed by a stellar cast of comedians, and including a number of outstanding specialty turns and brilliant tableaux scenes, “Artists and Models, which will be commenced at the St. James Theatre to-day, should make an ideal Show Week attraction. The producer and scenario writers have provided the perfect vehicle for Jack Benny’s infectious humour, and he takes full advantage of his many bright lines. In the strong supporting cast are Ida Lupino, Gail Patrick, Richard Arlen, Ben Blue, Judy Canova. the Yacht Club Boys, and Louis Armstrong’s “swing” orchestra. The story opens with Jack Benny, head of an advertising agency, torn between the fires of approaching bigamy and a breach of promise suit. He has promised to marry Ida Lupino, beautiful model whom he has “ sold ” to Richard Arlen for use in Dick’s advertising campaign. But in the meantime Benny has fallen in love with Gail Patrick, Aden’s fiance. And just to give him a few additional headaches, Benny remembers that he has promised both the women in the case that he will have each of them elected queen of the artists and models’ ball, of which he is chairman. Arlen, who is now in love with Miss Lupino, is hurt by what he considers a lie from her, and goes to Europe to try to forget. He cannot, however, and returns just before the ball. The night of the ball arrives, and all four join in the festivities. Jack decides to spend his time hiding from the two girls, but to his great surprise finds that it is not necessary„ because Miss Patrick, by c | e manoeuvring, has straightened out tne tangled mess. ______
