CROMWELL’S GALA WEEK

INDUSTRIES EXHIBITION Seven years ago Cromwell held a New Zealand Industries Exhibition which was a great success from a public interest point of view and made a valuable contribution to the finances of the town The fixture was organised and conducted entirely by Mr C W J Roberts, who was then Mayor, and an enthusiastic committee, Mr Roberts was beaten in this year’s mayoralty election, but since the arrangements for holding another exhibition were well in train, his voluntary services have been retained to repeat the success of 1931. The exhibition which is to be held this year from June 21 to June 25, inclusive, promises to be in every way a worthy successor. Two roomy halls will be occupied by stands demonstrating New Zealand articles, there will be lecturers, amusements of every kind, illuminations throughout the town, and many other diversions Mi Roberts told an Otago Daily Times representative yesterday that the undertaking is being given excellent support by Dunedin firms The Dunedin Manufacturers’ Association has given its blessing and practical assistance, and he expects to have his organisation complete when he leaves Dunedin at the end of next week. “ We expect the same generous support that was given last time,” he said “The exhibition is entirely a community effort Everything is for the benefit of the community and New Zealand manufacturers, and not even any of the side-shows will be conducted privately. It will be a gala week for Cromwell, and the proceeds go towards improvements to the public amenities of the town.”
