Rugby Football Rugby football results on Saturday were.—Tuapeka Mouth 9, Waitahuna 3; Beaumont 12, Lawrence 3; Tuapeka Mouth II 6, Waitahuna nil. No hockey matches were played on account of the rain. County Council The finances of the Tuapeka county are in a very sound position. Its credit balance at the end of last financial vear was £5314, an increase of £ll4. All ridings showed credit balances, whilst the rates collected equalled 92 per cent, of the amount levied. The Hospital Board’s levy was increased by £241 and equalled 43 per cent, of the total rates collected. A progressive reading policy was carried out, 21 miles of clay roads being gravelled with 15,500 cubic yards of gravel. Borough Council The monthly meeting of the Borough Council was held on Monday evening, the Mayor (Mr R. F. Bachelor) presiding. An invitation was accepted to attend divine service at the Presbyterian Church on June 19. The Finance Committee recommended that rates be struck on the same basis as last year. It was stated that Lawrence was the only borough to levy a lower rate last year than was levied four years ago. The Waterworks Committee reported that sufficient water was available to allow limited sluicing. The matter of the dangerous bridge at the hospital corner was referred to the Mam' Highways Board. _ _ , The Otago Electric Power Board Is to be approached regarding reduced charges for street lighting. Personal Mr E. M. Stevens, of the Waitati School, has been notified of his appointment as rectqr of the Lawrence District High School and will take up his duties on July 4.
