“ PEST STOWAWAY”

HEAVY FINE IMPOSED THE AWATEA CASE SYDNEY, June 1. (Received June 1, at 11 p.m.) Frederick Butler was fined £4O 8s and costs, and was ordered to pay £8 passage money. The police described him, as a “pest stowaway,’ who came under the notice of the police every three or four months. A message published yesterday stated: A man describing himself as Fredferick Butler, aged 35, a baker, who came from Auckland in the Awatea and who claimed that he had been carried on when saying farewell to a party on board, was told that he would not be allowed to land in Sydney. He was locked in the hospital cabin, but escaped by breaking open the door. He was later located at a city office.
