WAIKATO SHOW
OPENED BY GOVERNOR-GENERAL INFLUENCE OF FARMING INDUSTRY (Per United Press Association) HAMILTON, June 1. Opening the Waikato Winter Show to-day, the Governor-General (Viscount Galway) heartily congratulated the show officials on the excellence of the exhibition and. commenting upon tne progress made in dairying, stated that it was exhibitions such as this which assisted the farmer to realise the many improvements invented during a year. . “ I was sorry to hear of the outbreak of facial eczema in the Waikato, and I wish to condole with those who have suffered heavy losses,” he stated. He hoped that by research work it would be possible to identify the cause and effect a remedy, and also to guarantee that there would be no outbreak in the future. “Agricultural work, including dairy farming, is a very progressive industry, and the farmer must keep abreast of the times and take note of all new improvements if he wishes to increase the value of his land, to assist towards prosperity and to expand production.” Viscount Galway concluded by, expressing the hope that the exhibition would be an indirect cause of more prosperity and more happiness and more people for the Waikato.
