EX-HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS

ANNUAL BALL The Coi.cert Chamber of the Town Hall presented an animated scene last evening when the members of the ExHigh School Girls’ Club held their annual ball The school colours—dark blue ana white- -were introduced in the twin crests and badge which made a background for the scarletcoated orchestra upon the stage, and in the overhanging draperies ox bunting. The guests, who numbered 300, were received by the president of the Ex-Girls' Club (Miss Flora Allan) who wore a smart ensemble of black -velvet and carried a bouquet of violets and , jonquils, presented to her by the club. She was assisted by the vicepresident, Mrs Kerr black cloque, pink organdie corsage spray) and the principal of the school. Miss M H M King (dark green embossed velvet, trimmed with gold sequins) Both carried bouquets of dark red chrysanthemums, the gifts of the club. Early in the evening 23 debutantes were presented by Mrs Kerr to Miss Allan, who acknowledged their deep curtsies by handing to each one a Victorian posy of mixed flowers. Miss Betty Whittington (white taffeta. square neckline, full skirt, camellias) . Miss Neire Wilson (Ivory brocaded taffeta, overdress of Milanese lace, old and beautiful bracelet). Miss Elvie Dodd (pale pink Swiss organdie, embroidered in green and pink rosebuds, green sash). Miss Gladys Parker (white satin frock with net redingote. Powers were worn in the hair). Miss Betty Whitaker (ivory .embossed ninon over taffeta. Trimming of gold sequins). Miss Gwen Graham (ivory lace redingote over taffeta, bow’s down centre front, Peter Pan collar). Miss Ainslee Horne (white angelskin lace over satin, cut on classical lines). Miss Joan Chetwin (heavy mother-of-pear satin under a redingote of white stiffened net, lame flowers). Miss Colleen McLauchlan (early Victorian frock of white stiffened net over taffeta, the skirt banded with white satin). Miss June Oliphant (Victorian gown of ivory georgette and taffeta, scroll effect at hemline, butterfly sleeves). Miss Margaret Martin (simple gown of white georgette, with ruching at bodice and hemline). Miss Joan Markham (ivory taffeta cut on Empire lines, diamante clasps, freesias worn in the hair). Miss Betty Walker (white georgette over satin, with sash and white flowers). Miss Betty Juriss (white .georgette over satin, made in Grecian style with floating shoulder draperies). Miss Stewart Tilleyshort (ivory embossed satin taffeta, square neckline, flared skirt). Miss Ngaire Glue (medaeival frock of white brocaded taffeta, trimmed with pink velvet ribbon, diamante Juliet cap). Miss Joan Moody (ivory figured taffeta, inset godet of lace, puffed sleeves of lace). Miss Dorothea Faigan (billowing pale pink net over taffeta, bolero jacket trimmed with silver thread).
