MR SEMPLE’S CHALLENGE CRITIC FAILS TO APPEAR (Per United Press Association) WANGANUI, June 1. Mr H. C. Jenkins, editor of the Wanganui Chronicle, who was challenged by the Minister of Public Works (Mr R, Semple) to prove or withdraw statements he was reported to have made at a meeting of National Party supporters at Bulls, did not attend Mr Semple’s meetings at Bulls or Wanganui. Mr Semple, in his speeches, replied to the criticisms made by Mr Jenkins. During his visit he also inspected the Turakina-Fordell railway deviation, and received deputations on access for up-river settlers. He left to-day for Wellington.
