Ministerial The Attorney-general (Mr H. G. R. Mason) arrived in Dunedin yesterday from Invercargill. , He at the Grand Hotel last night, and will leave to-day for Ashburton, where he will open a new courthouse to-morrow. He will return to Wellington on Sunday. His Honor Mr Justice Kennedy returned yesterday morning from Invercargill. The Rev, D. C. Herron returned by yesterday afternoon’s express from Wellington. Mr Robert Duncan left by the through express yesterday on a visit to the North Island. Mr M. Silverstone returned by yesterday afternoon’s express from a business visit to Wellington. Mr P. J. Alley, who has been appointed engineer to the Taumarunui Borough Council, was a passenger by the through express from Invercargill yesterday. Mr S. Ritchie, conciliation commissioner, arrived in Dunedin by last night’s second express- He will preside over a sitting of the Conciliation Council to-day. Advice has been received that Mr John E. Green, of Dunedin, was to leave New York by the Queen Mary last week, after an interesting two months’ trip across the United States. Mr J. J. W. Pollard, director of the South Island Travel Association, was a passenger for Christchurch by the mid-day express yesterday. Mr Lester Brown, publicity manager for Twentieth Century Fox Films, arrived by the express yesterday afternoon in connection with the screening of the film “In Old Chicago.” Messrs R. B. Tennent and F. Cameron, of Wellington, and Messrs J. Hewlett and J. Duncan, of Christchurch, arrived by yesterday afternoon’s express to attend a meeting of the Government Barley Committee to be held in Dunedin to-day. The Union Airways liner Kotuku left the Taieri airport at 8.15 yesterday morning for Christchurch. Blenheim, and Palmerston North, with Mrs K. Watson for Wellington. The southbound liner Karoro arrived at 2.45 p.m. from the north with Mr E. C. Evans from Christchurch. Miss Marjorie E. Baker, M.A., has been appointed principal of the Wanganui Girls’ College, in succession ’o Miss A. C. Tizard. M.A.. who has resigned. Miss Baker,- who is at present senior English mistress at the Timaru Girls’ High School, is a graduate of Canterbury University College, where she obtained her B.A. degree in 1921 and her M.A, in the following year. She took first class honours in history, being one of only two candidates to obtain the distinction in the Dominion that year. She has been on the staff of the Timaru Girls’ High School for 13 years.
