TAIERI AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY

ANNUAL MEETING Mr J. M. Murray presided over the annual meeting of members of'the Taieri Agricultural Society. There was a large attendance. Reference was made to the death of Mr Francis Doherty, a staunch supporter of the society and prominent member of the farming community. ; The annual report, which was adopted, contained a reference to the annual show. There had been a record attendance of the public, and the judging of the various sections passed off expeditiously. Exhibitors had again shown their appreciation of the improvements to the show ground by bringing forward their exhibits in increased numbers, the entries in all sections being good. Remarks by the judges proved that the display of prize stock was one of the best that ever came before them. Eight * ordinary committee meetings had been held during the year, and were well attended by the members. It was gratifying to notice the increased interest shown by members. , - The balance sheet showed a healthy financial position. The following office-bearers were elected:—President, Mr John Campbell; vice-president. Mr David A. Wallace; additions ;o committee— Messrs P. G. Ford, J L. Findlay, S. Young, M. Reid, D. A. Wallace, J. A. Wither, R. T. Kirk, E Lake, A. Wilson, J. Young, jun., A Free, R. Cameron, J. L. Grainger, Arthur Reid; auditor, Mr A- H. Cooke; hon. veterinary surgeons, Messrs C; V. Dayus and H. Doyle. Messrs Allan Mann, Peter Dow, A. S Gillespie, George Ford, W. K. Kirk, and Robert Thomson were elected life members COMMITTEE MEETING A committee meeting followed, over which the new president (Mr John Campbell) presided, The Clydesdale Horse Society forward a copy of the annual balance sheet.—Received. The Wairarapa and East Coast A. and P. Society asked for support from the Taieri Society in a protest against the dates selected for the Royal Show—October 27, 28, and 29. —Received. A sub-committee was appointed to make arrangements for the annual ball to be held at Outram on July 15. Saturday. November 19, was selected as the date for the annual show. Mr A. W. Amos congratulated the president on his election and gave one guinea as a special prize in a class to be nominated by the president. The sum of one guinea was voted for each of the two prizes for pasture competitions. The president was empowered to revise the section committees for the nomination of judges.
