A motorist who had parked his car in Courtenay street. New Plymouth, was noticed just after noon the other day gathering speed in an easterly direction with a portable "No parking” sign sitting on the bumper of his car. A strident tooting from a fellow driver warned him that something was amiss and he stopped and removed the encumbrance.

“ We must go ahead and recover some of these outstanding rates,” declared Mr F. S. Scott, chairman of the Waimairi County Council, when the county clerk (Mr G. S.
