ro ritF EDITOR Sir, —1 think that the following, which appeared in the Madras Mail under date of April 23, 1938. may interest you and your readers:— RESUMPTION OF ASSISTED IMMIGRATION AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT PLANS NOW COMPLETE CANBERRA April 22 The Federal Cabinet has completed plans for assisted migration, which will be restricted to immigrants of British stock from the United Kingdom Married couples who are not nominated by friends or relatives in Australia will be eligible if they possess £3OO, or an Income of £IOO, yearly while single persons must possess £SO on landing. The costs ot passages will be shared by the United Kingdom the Commonwealth. and the migrant Perhaps you can enlighten me what this Dominion is doing to attract immigrants.—l am, etc. A New Zealander LAssisted immigration is suspended in the meantime. —Ed O.D.T.]
