GIRL'S ESCAPADE
RUNS AWAY ON LINER “ WANTED TO SEE THE WORLD ” (Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 30. A 16-year-old Australian girl was “ taken in charge by the police when the Matson liner Monterey arrived at Auckland from Sydney. The girl was found mingling with the passengers after the ship left Sydney on Friday, and she said on arrival today that she had wanted to see the world, and so had run away from;« home. : -i’ ' For the rest of the voyage to Auckland the girl was not placed in the ship’s brig, but was allowed the use of an empty inside state room. At Auckland she was taken, before the Children’s Court, which ?, was presided over by Mr W. R: McKeen, S.M., who ordered her to be returned to her home by the Mariposa, leaving Auckland on June 10. '
