A HEAVY POLL
AUCKLAND POWER BOARD CITIZENS’ SWEEPING VICTORY (Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND, May 26. Eleven Citizens’ Committee candidates and one Labour candidate won seats at the Auckland Electric Power Board election yesterday, when approximately 40,000 votes were cast in a moderately heavy poll. This is the first election held under the extended franchise. Mr S. J, Harbutt, the retiring chairman. topped the poll with 22,433, and each successful candidate polled over 20,000. The others elected are:— Messrs H, T. Goldie, J. Park, W. J. Campbell, S. 1. Crookes, E. H. Potter. J. Dempsey, M. J. Bennett. C. J. Lovegrove, S. W. House, and F. W. Waters (all Citizens’ ticket) and J Sayegh (Labour). The twelfth seat remained in doubt until 1 a.m., Mr W. A. Donald, the Citizens’ candidate, closely challenging Mr Sayegh. Nine sitting members sought reelection, and all except one, Mr T. Bloodworth, were returned.
