BREEDING OF HORSES

NEEDS OF THE DOMINION THE GOVERNMENT’S INTEREST (Peb United Press Association) WELLINGTON, May 20. Reference to the Government’s proposals for the encouragement of the breeding of horses was made by the; Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr W. E.’ Parrv), when he attended a meeting of the Dominion executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union to-day. Mr Parry said that when he took office he deplored the fact that in New Zealand horse breeding was going by theboard. It appeared that there was dire' need for a movement to encourage far-, mers to breed horses, a good type of horse. He had suggested that New. Zealand should try to import a class of stallion suitable for breeding horses.' Replying to a question, the Minister said the hunter was a great horse fort ordinary purposes and for recreation in farming communities. The rights, and interests of hunt clubs would be protected. There was no reason, he*' said, why the measures proposed should 1 ■not be extended to cover every form of horse that New Zealand wanted.* What was wanted was a utility horse. There was no limit to the scheme.
