ROSLYN RATEPAYERS
ASSOCIATION’S MONTHLY MEETING
The moqthly meeting of the Roslyn and Kaikorai Ratepayers’ Association was held last night. Mr P. L. Ritchie presided, and there were also present --Messrs J. Moir, W. J. Bell, D. O’Connell. G. A. Laurenson. E. Sunderland, M. Thomson, P. Findlay and A. C. Laing (secretary). The town clerk wrote advising that the association’s request for an extra light at the intersection of Taieri road and Nairn street could not be granted, as the present light was considered adequate—After discussion, it was decided to ask the council to review the question of lighting at this point, and to request that a new light be pldced at the corner of Highgate near the Roslyn Presbyterian Church, where a recent fatal motor accident had occurred.
Referring to a further request by the association, the town clerk advised that the City Council would negotiate for the rounding of the dangerous corner at the intersection of Tweed and Fifield streets. Several complaints were received concerning the regrading of the intersection of Taieri road and Walton street, the finishing of the kerbing in Taieri road to Tyne street, the tarsealing of the intersection of Hereford and Ann streets, the grading of and the filling in of potholes in Hart street, the erection of a safety handrail in Littlebourne road fronting a dangerous depression, the widening of the recently-erected roadway into Ellis Park from the Kaikorai Valley road, and the widening of the intersection of Tweed and Merlyn streets. —The secretary was instructed to forward these matters to the City Council for attention. The seriousness of the obstruction caused by the present bottle-neck at the intersection of Highgate and Lynn street was discussed. During the discussion it was stated that particularly heavy traffic used ihis roadway on seven days of the week, as it was the only turning-point for the golf links. —lt was decided to ask the City Council to have this intersection widened to a chain. Expenses incurred by the association’s recent public meeting, held to discuss the former council’s proposal to place buses on the hill service instead of the cable cars, were passed for payment
