BID FOR LIBERTY

ESCAPE FROM BORSTAL CAR STOLEN AT INVERCARGILL The police have been advised that an inmate of the Invercargill Borstal Institution made his escape at about 2.30 p.m. yesterday. Shortly after his disappearance was noticed, it was discovered that a motor car had been stolen from the corner of Thompson and Earnslaw street, Invercargill. It is believed that the youth converted the car to aid in his attempt to gain his liberty. The prisoner is 17 years of age, has a fresh complexion, brown hair and eyes, and at the time of his escape he was wearing grey dungarees, a grey shirt, and black slippers. He was not wearing a hat.

The missing car, which carries an Camaru registration number of 139673, is a 1934 Master Chevrolet sedan model with accommodation for five passengers. It is painted a bluish colour and has wire wheels. When last seen it was being driven north along the main road out of Invercargill.
