MANAWATU MEETING

FINAL PREPARATIONS (Peg United Press Association) PALMERSTON N., May 19. At Awapuni interesting work was done in the final preparations for the Manawatu meeting. The course proper was open, with the fiags wide out, while the plough, which was in good order, was extensively used. The first pair out on the course proper were Cuddler and Prediction, who were sent oyer four furlongs, the first two in 2Gsec, with the journey completed in 54 2-ssec. On the plough, Great Hope and Erebus went live furlongs in Imin 4 4-ssec. the first three in just under 39sec. Skyful and Hirangi were given a mile task. From the half-mile the pace was on and the last four furlongs were done in 52 4-ssec. Sporting Gift dashed over four furlongs in 52sec, the last two in 26sec. One of the most interesting gallops of the morning was that in which Warehi, Aero Lad, and Aurora’s Love participated. They went a brisk seven furlongs, the first three taking 43sec, and the whole distance Imin 31 l-ssec. Warehi was well clear of Aero Lad, and Aurora’s Love was about two lengths further back. Bluffer and Quadroon were partners in a five-furlong sprint on the course proper. They livened up after a furlong and covered the last four in 53sec. Tail Light and Pango were associated over six furlongs on the plough in Imin 18sec. The two Palmerston North Handicap candidates. Old Surrey and Conveyor went seven furlongs on the course proper They did six furlongs in Imin 2Gsec. and were going well at the finish Conveyor being slightly ahead Ika and Entheos were sent over a round on the hurdle track. Except that Entheos hit one fence rather badly, both jumped well Merry Thought and Royal Limond galloped a mile, the last six furlongs taking Imin 31sec. Royal Limond was going the better at the finish. Galion. an arrival from Taumarunui went five furlongs in Imin 12 l-ssec. Although the limes were not secured. Dainty Sue and High Peer did a particularly smart four furlongs and finished well Gay Molly and Poroiti were sent, over six furlongs on the plough, doing the distance in Imin 27sec Gay Mollv looks well. , Noisy Night and Selkirk went five furlongs and finished on strongly, the last four taking 52 l-ssec. OTAGO HUNT CLUB The Otago Hunt Club will hold its weekly meet at North Taieri tomorrow afternoon, Mrs A. K. Miller and Messrs D. Connor and J. Skinner having kindly placed their properties at the club’s disposal for the run. The start will be from the Taieri side of the Black bridge, and the whole of the hunt can be witnessed from the natural grand stand on the adjoining hillside Those desirous of witnessing the hunt should go out by the Whare Flat road and take the second turn to the right after passing the Black bridge. Followers will meet at the starting point at 3 p.m.
