Dr D. G. McMillan left by the midday express yesterday on a visit to Rotorua.

Mr A. G. Valentine was a passenger for the north by the mid-dlay express yesterday. Mr and Mrs L. G. Lilly left by the through express for the north yesterday on a visit to Britain and the Continent.

Mr John Dunlop, of Seaward Downs, was a passenger by the through express yesterday for Wellington to attend a meeting of the Dairy Board. Mr S. C. Sutherland, manager of the Dunedin branch of Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., left by the Awatea on Wednesday on a two months’ business tour of Australia.

Dr R. Lawson, professor of education at the Otago University, was a passenger by the through express yesterday for Wellington to attend a conference of education professors. Mr J. D. Pascoe, of Wellington, arrived in Dunedin last evening to carry out a research of historical pictorial records in connection with the Dominion's centennial celebrations. At their annual dinner, the students of the Otago School of Mines presented a fitted attache case to Professor W. N. Benson to mark his completion of 21 sessions as professor of geology and its allied subjects.

A Press Association cable message from London states that Squadronleader D. H. F. Barnett, a New Zealander, who is serving in Iraq, has been appointed to the command of No. 84 Bomber Squadron at Shaibah. Mr Justice Quilliam, who has been appointed a temporary judge of the Supreme Court, was sworn in by the Chief Justice at Hamilton on Wednesday. He arrived in Wellington yesterday. and will hear undefended divorce petitions to-day. The Union Airways liner Korimako left the Taieri airport at 8.15 yesterday morning for Christchurch, Blenheim, and Palmerston North, with Mr H. N. Dyne for Christchurch. Mr H. T. Horton for Wellington, and Mr A. I. McGowan for Palmerston North. The south-bound liner Karoro arrived at 2.45 p.m. from the north with Mr L. L. White from Wellington and Mr K. McAdam from Christchurch.

A Press Association cable message from London states that the Evening News announces the engagement of the 65-year-old Polish nobleman Prince Michael Radziwill to Mrs Harriet Stewart Dawson, formerly of Melbourne. Prince Radziwill is a cousin of the ex-Kaiser. Mrs Dawson says they will be married probably next week.
