CAPPING CONCERT
ENTERTAINING FARE Bright and entertaining fare is provided by the students of the University of Otago in their annua] capping concert, which was again presented before large audiences in His Majesty’s Theatre last night. The variety of the material selected for the concert, and the vigour and exuberance with which the various farces, interludes, and sketches are presented, help to keep the standard of the entertainment on a commendabiy high plane. That everpopular feature of similar concerts, the sextet, acquitted itself with distinct success, the usual topical touches being happily conceived and well presented. Its imitation of the Comedy Harmonists was particularly good. Among the farces probably the best was “Itching Moments,” a diverting and subtly humorous episode which was skilfully written and performed Another was “ Falling Prices,” a parody on visiting health lecturers, with a leaven of local politics, which proved highly entertaining. The ballet was responsible for several skilful performances, some of which contained more than an element of burlesque, and the orchestra, under Mr James Clark’s baton, carried out its work with marked success The concert will be presented again for the last time to-night.
