CHIROPODY CONVENTION

CALL FOR REGISTRATION NEW ZEALAND REPRESENTED (Thom Our Own Correspond!**) (ByAir Mall) ' LONDON, Apt 20. The need for a Bill for the registry* tion of qualified chiropodists oh llraai similar to that; passed for the regiatration of dentist* -has been strongly urged by speakers at - a joint convention of chiropodists In liondon.' Soma 300 practising chiropodists of both sexes from all parts of the British Isles, the Continent, Canada, New Zealand and the United States, are attending the convention. The New Zealand delegates are Mr J. K. Kilbride, M.N.I.Ch. (Christchurch), and; Mr C. H. Cornish (Auckland), both of the National Institute of Chiropody. In toasting “ The Chiropody profession,’’ Mr M. S. McCorquodale, MJ?., said the profession was one which ought to have protection from the State. Very great social service was rendered by chiropodists at foot clinics and hospitals. Over 300,000 patients, most of them old and in the humblest walks of life, had received free foot treatment at such clinics from qualified chiropodists. ,

Mr A, J. R. Bride, Chelsea Polytechnic, who replied, said that what was once looked upon as a luxury was now a necessity and the right of every person who suffered from foot complaints arising from ill-fitting shoes or other causes, such as . diseases due to workers standing many hours at a stretch while following their occupations. London had five municipal foot clinics, and he hoped that the day would soon come when every great hospital wopld have at least one chiropodist on its staff. Chiropody had made remarkable progress during the last 15 years, but quacks of the worst kind had exploited the profession, and the trained chiropodist and the public- must bo protected from unqualified persons.
