CAPPING CONCERT
BRIGHT ENTERTAINMENT The students of the Otago University can always be relied upon to provide bright entertainment at their annual concert, and their effort this yeai is more than usually successful, The mixture of farce, amusing interludes and sketches, together with the more serious and highly topical note struck by the sextet, was thoroughly enjoyed by the large audience in His Majesty’s Theatre last night, and if some of the numbers presented during the evening lacked a little m finish or originality the exuberance with which the students entered into the spirit of the show Quite made up for any deficiences. Probably because, for a change, there was little of a topical nature in it, “ Itching Moments ” was the better of the two farces staged. It clung more to its name “ farce ’ than the other and proved to be particularly diverting The other one, “ Falling Prices,” was not at all lacking in those ingredients which go to make up a good sketch, and it was an amusing offering, full of subtle humour and deft satire The sextet provided its usual quota of comments on local happenings and people, while the majority of the interludes were of an entertaining nature The orchestra, under the baton of Mr James Clark, gave a particularly good account of itself
The concert will be repeated again to-night and finally to-morrow night.
