Johnston, whose death occurred at hi.s residence on April 22 at the age of 85 years, had resided in the Milton district for about 50 years. He was born at Kilwaughter, County Antrim, Ireland. He joined the Police Force in Liverpool on attaining manhood, and served for over eight years as a constable. In 1885 he married Miss Elizabeth McAlister, of County Antrim, and two months after their marriage they emigrated to New Zealand in the steamer lonic. After a few months in the colony they went to the North Branch, Milton, where farming property had been acquired. Mr and Mrs Johnston afterwards removed to a farm in the Clarksville district, and they resided there until they removed to Milton to live in retirement.. The deceased is survived by his widow and family of two sons and two daughters.
