TO-DAY'S CHAMPIONSHIPS
OTAGO ATHLETES AT THEIR BEST ! Commencing with heats at 12.30 p.m. and the finals at 2 o'clock the Otago track and field championships —the outstanding meeting of the vear in Dunedin—will take place at the Caledonian Ground to-day, when over 250 athletes from oil over Otago and Southland; will be competing. Seldom before has such an array of athletic talent been gathered together fpr an Otago championship meeting. There are the four Empire Games athletes-~A. R. P«s,H J Tyrle, T. Allen and Miss Betty Forbes-competing and other outstanding Otago nien partlcioatang are A. A. Cameron, M. R Spillane. H* D. Ramsay, J. L. Gerken.C McGregor, R. McLachlan, C. G. Gib bons and h. mention but a few.- From the Otago University .Club'there will be such excel lent performers-as H. A, SteeL A R. Duff and B. W. Nixon, and Inyercargill will be strongly represented with such athletes as 3. Seanlon and W. Dohaldson. As the team to represent Otago at the New Zealand track and field championships next week will be selected partly* from to-day's performances all,the competitors will be at this top of their form in an endeavour to win pro' vincial representative honours. The result shoiild.be that some of the best races and track events seen m recent years should be witnessed *" the Caledonian Ground to-day ; Apart from the championship events a large number, of athletic and cycling races will be run. It is to be hoped the meeting is given the public support it deserves. A dance will be held in the evaning.
