—, «. ASSESSMENT OF DAMAGES NEW ZEALAND CASE COMPARED (From Our Own Correspondent);' , (By Air Mail) LONDON, Feb. 9. Since a Christchurch jury had to assess damages for " loss of expectation of life " last year, four similar cases have come before the English courts. It is interesting to compare the amounts awarded by the New Zealand jury and the English judges. I In the Christchurch case a child I of three was killed in a road accident and the jury assessed damages at £ISOO. In all the English cases the persons whose lives were valued were also killed in road accidents. The first instance was of a girl aged 23 and Lord Justice Greer awarded her estate £IOOO. Mr Justice GreavesLord fixed the amount at £ISOO when a girl of eight was killed, while Mr Justice Lewis made award of £ 1000 in a' case' in which a man of 23 lost his life. The victim in the latest case was a boy of four, and) Mr Justice Macnaghten assessed damages at £350.
